Concept project · kitchen hardware
Precision, made visible.
A complete Product Creative Sprint, shown end to end through a fictional manual coffee grinder: from an unstructured starting point and category diagnosis to one commercially focused idea, four motion formats, a six-second cutdown and three supporting stills.

01 · Simulated starting point
The product was not the problem. The presentation was.
For this internal exercise, we created the kind of material a capable founder might genuinely arrive with: quick phone photographs, an unexplained mechanism and no coherent argument for why the grinder should matter. The product is fictional; the commercial barriers are deliberately realistic.

Barrier 01
Recognition without a reason
The object is visible, but the buyer is left to decide for themselves why its adjustment, mechanism or materials are valuable.
Barrier 02
Parts without meaning
Taking the grinder apart reveals complexity without translating that complexity into precision, control or a better daily ritual.
Barrier 03
Operation without proof
A casual use photograph shows hands and a handle, but it cannot communicate the deliberate click, the burr doing its work or the finished reward.
Simulated concept materials created by Elarta. They are not client-supplied photographs or evidence of a real product launch.
The category opportunity
The strongest technical products in the category explain adjustment and burr engineering clearly. The strongest design-led products create desire through materials, restraint and brand. Too often those strengths live apart: the buyer is asked to choose between understanding the mechanism and wanting the object.
That exposed the useful gap for Obsidian: combine proof and desire around the moment a hand grinder is actually bought for — the short daily operation. The resulting commercial hypothesis was simple: sell the operation, not merely the object.
Same product. A completely different argument.

The approved commercial idea
Make the mechanism the proof. The film begins with a deliberate setting, moves inside the burr and ends on the fresh grounds in hand — decision, proof, reward.
Each beat removes a barrier. The dial makes control legible. The burr turns hidden engineering into visible evidence. The final grounds convert that engineering into the outcome the buyer actually cares about.

05 · Supporting stills
Three images. Three different commercial jobs.
The Sprint includes three supporting stills, not three copies of the same composition. Each image answers a different buyer question and is formatted for its primary use.

01 · Recognition
See the complete product immediately
A clean square hero establishes silhouette, materials, controls and the full product at marketplace-thumbnail scale.

02 · Proof
Make the hidden mechanism tangible
A dedicated burr macro turns an internal engineering detail into the visible reason to believe the product is considered.

03 · Scale
Resolve the size and handling question
The vertical in-hand frame shows grip, proportion and everyday use without requiring an unsupported performance claim.
06 · Format system
One idea, properly recomposed for four placements.
These are four finished films, not one centre-crop. Select a format to see how the same approved sequence is reframed around the product, the hands and the mechanism.
07 · Six-second cutdown
A shorter edit with its own commercial job.
This is not the 15-second film compressed or played faster. It is a separate vertical decision: establish the product, surface the reason to believe and land on the useful outcome before attention disappears.
The editorial decision
Keep the argument. Remove the pause.
The cut retains the product-to-mechanism-to-outcome logic of the approved direction while removing the slower atmospheric beats that earn their place in the 15-second film.
- 01
Product in hand
Establish the object, its scale and premium composure immediately.
- 02
Precision dial
Signal deliberate adjustment rather than generic kitchen hardware.
- 03
Burr mechanism
Expose the hidden engineering detail that gives the product credibility.
- 04
Fresh grounds
Close on the useful result the buyer is actually trying to create.

08 · Delivery
The finished work arrives as a usable system.
The value does not stop at the hero frame. The standard Sprint closes with a controlled revision, channel-ready exports and a clear recommendation for what to test next.

The decision
A sellable idea, settled before production.
- Product and category review
- One commercial hypothesis
- One approved direction
- One three-beat storyboard
Testing recommendation
Test proof against composure
Route A
Mechanism first
Lead with hidden proof.
Route B
Product first
Lead with premium recognition.
Run the burr-first six-second opening against the calmer product-first opening while retaining the same body and outcome. The useful learning is whether this audience responds first to hidden mechanism or immediate premium recognition — not whether two unrelated films happened to perform differently.
Produced with modern generation and visualisation tools under human direction, compositing, editorial and finishing. A locked accuracy sheet controlled product geometry and markings across every approved frame.
